In the superficial dystopia that is celebrity culture, aging is a big no-no. But with the looming inevitability of wrinkles and sagging skin, even some of the hottest Hollywood hotties have earned a few grey hairs.

So we sometimes forget what the legends of today looked like in their primes. Taking a look at this list of handsome, famous lads, it’s obvious that they look a bit different from when they were in their youthful heydays. but hey, we have to admit, these actors and musicians have aged like the finest of wines. Sip, sip.

1. Anthony Hopkins: When you really look at this side-by-side of The Silence of the Lambs star then and now, not much has changed! It must have something to do with his collagen-rich diet of human flesh, paired with some fava beans and a nice Chianti, of course.

2. Samuel L. Jackson: You all know this guy. Samuel L. is the forever king of profanity and one of Quentin Tarantino’s muses. He may not have his fluffy ‘fro anymore, but he’s still got that intimidating smolder.

3. Denzel Washington: Back in Denzel’s college days, he wasn’t exactly the fully-blossomed hunk that he is today. Who knew that the gap-toothed cutie would eventually become the two-time Oscar winner (with a straighter smile) who has the world swooning to this very day.

4. Steven Tyler: Aerosmith’s long-haired, rockin’ lead singer hasn’t really changed up his look since the ’70s, and we admire him for it. Sometimes consistency is key. Keep on dreaming on, Steven.

5. Ozzy Osbourne: Whether you know him as The Prince of Darkness or The Godfather of Heavy Metal, the on-again-off-again lead singer of Black Sabbath has still got his luscious locks in the present day. Not much has changed with the bat-biting singer!

6. Mick Jagger: The lead singer of the infinite Rolling Stones still rocks his shaggy head of hair and cigarette body like it’s the ’60s, and we love him for it. Even in his 70s the rock star is still charming honky tonk women.

7. Jack Nicholson: Jack is known for bringing sarcastic anti-heroes to life onscreen, in an oddly likable fashion. With a hairline that has nearly stayed in the same spot for decades, retired Jack is usually thriving on the beach! All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

8. Christopher Plummer: It must be nice being born with devilish looks that could kill… up until your 90s. At 90 years young, The Sound of Music star and Oscar winner is still as handsome as ever.

9. Jackie Chan: The legendary martial artist and action star has a resume, and killer abs, that would impress anyone. Okay, so the Drunken Master may not have the abs he once had, but he still looks pretty darn good.

10. James Earl Jones: With his silver eyes and smooth voice, Darth Vader himself has had a film career that’s spanned over seven decades. We’d definitely let the Coming to America star swoon us with his rich vocals.

11. Harrison Ford: Good ol’ Indiana Jones has still got that same sexy smirk that he donned back in the ’80s. Though he’s retired his hat and whip, you can still see his charming face in the modern Star Wars universe.

12. Marlon Brando: Whether you know him from 1951’s A Streetcar Named Desire or 1972’s The Godfather, you’ve likely gone gaga over two-time Oscar winner Marlon Brando. We wouldn’t refuse any offer from young Brando.

13. Tom Hanks: This curly haired boy-next-door has charmed the hearts of nearly everyone. You may have watched him bring Toy Story‘s outspoken Woody to life, or perhaps take on the role of heroic pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, which shows that you’ve grown up alongside Hanks.

14. Jeff Goldblum: As time passed and his hair grayed, Jurassic Park‘s Jeff Goldblum has slowly solidified himself as the internet’s quirky, sweater-donning dad figure, and he still looks pretty good. Thank goodness he’s not looking like his character by the end of The Fly.

15. Robert De Niro: Your dad’s favorite mob movie star has graced the silver screen for countless decades, and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. De Niro still wears that legendary smirk and charming mole proudly, and we can’t get enough.

16. Paul Rudd: Ah, Paul Rudd. He’s America’s sweetheart and the true king of not aging. Those gorgeous green eyes have been charming us since his role as Cher Horowitz’s ex-step brother (and love interest) in 1995’s Clueless, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

17. Will Smith: In West Philadelphia he was born and raised… well, not really, but you know the theme song! The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Pursuit of Happyness star has aged gracefully, passing on his youthful genes to his famous kids, Willow and Jaden.

18. Elton John: Even after decades of dressing like a glam rocker, Sir Elton still loves his wild stage outfits and gaudy, tinted glasses. The Rocket Man is such an amazing musician and pop culture icon that he even inspired a well-received 2019 biopic musical. Keep on rockin,’ Elton.

19. Bryan Cranston: With an acting range that’ll have you thinking he’s got multiple personalities (just kidding), Cranston is so darn likable in every role he’s played over the years. But we don’t think Malcolm in the Middle‘s Hal would ever hang out with Breaking Bad‘s Walter White.

20. Alec Baldwin: The noted hothead and 30 Rock star may look a bit different now than he did in his Beetlejuice days, where he looked like a blue-eyed tall glass of water,. However, the silver fox still has acting chops that’ll knock your socks off.

21. Abigail Breslin: Child stars have had some stunning transformations too. The girl behind Little Miss Sunshine rose to fame during her awkward years, but has since grown to become a force to be reckoned with. Can you believe Breslin’s transformation from these side-by-side photographs?

22. Zac Efron: Efron might’ve hit the scene as a puny pre-teen, but there’s no denying the total beefcake he’s transformed into today. Starring in movies like Baywatch and Neighbors, his winsome grin and sparkling blue eyes undoubtedly break just as many hearts (if not more) now than in his High School Musical days.

23. Elle Fanning: Noted for her breakout role in the J.J. Abrams film Super 8, this young lady has quickly blossomed from a quiet young girl into a serious force in Hollywood. One thing that hasn’t changed? Those soulful baby blues.

24. Scarlett Johansson: Johansson has enjoyed an illustrious career as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after leading ladies, but it came after a massive transformation from her early days. It’s hard to believe the little girl from The Horse Whisperer has become a sexy siren of the silver screen.

25. Daryl Sabara: Even though he first won our hearts while playing the role of Juni Cortez in the Spy Kids film franchise, you might not find someone who could recognize Sabara on the streets today. That curly mop was his signature style!

26. Daniel Radcliffe: Since practically every young adult today was raised on the Harry Potter films and books, you’d have tough time finding someone who isn’t familiar with this Brit’s mug. Still, even little ‘Arry couldn’t escape puberty.

27. Joseph Gordon Levitt: Levitt’s first claim to fame was his role as an eccentric teen alien on the ’90s sitcom Third Rock From the Sun. Today, he’s fully transformed into a handsome devil—and one of Hollywood’s most charismatic leading men.

28. Georgie Henley: Bitten by the acting bug at a young age, Henley starred as Lucy in the massive blockbuster fantasy film series, The Chronicles of Narnia. Now, she’s gone on to star in several off-Broadway productions of such plays as Babes in the Wood, We Will Rock You, and Jane Eyre.

29. Drew Barrymore: Barrymore was just a child when she first made a name for herself in Hollywood with a starring role in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Even though she grew up in the public spotlight, she’s barely recognizable from her former child self!

30. Kristen Stewart: While Stewart first catapulted into the public eye as the lead in the teen vampire love story, Twilight, she’s still a mere shadow of herself as a child. Anyone who knew her as a kid would have a hard time recognizing her today!

31. Hilary Duff: When Duff first starred in the children’s film Casper Meets Wendy, she was a wide-eyed actress looking to make a name for herself. She matured quite a bit after the hit TV series Lizzy McGuire, transitioning into more adult roles (she stars in Younger). She’s also a mom herself!

32. Kim Kardashian: To be fair, Kardashian wasn’t actually a child star, though she did have some famous ties to celebrities in her youth. Even still, looking at her today, it’s almost impossible to make a connection between the left and right photo.

33. Ariel Winter: People across the United States came to love this young lady for her role on the hit sitcom Modern Family. Since launching her career in 2009, however, Winter has changed her look several times—and she’s known just as much for her body-positive attitude as for her acting chops.

34. Blake McIver Ewing: Known for playing the young nerdy boy Derek on the ’90s family sitcom Full House, Ewing had a difficult time shedding his geeky image. Once he finally moved on from puberty, however, his model good looks sealed his post-nerd status.

35. Ariana Grande: Grande first catapulted into the public eye as a young girl on the the Nickelodeon series Victorious. When she reemerged as a fully fledged pop star some years later, fans had a difficult time realizing she was the same person!

36. Jerry O’Connell: After first appearing in the ’80s coming of age film Stand By Me, no one ever expected the pudgy (but lovable) O’Connell to blossom into this stud. Nevertheless, he did—and he went on to star in such roles as Crossing Jordan and Sliders.

37. Keira Knightley: Looking at a side-by-side of Knightley as a child and now, you can see a faint resemblance. But who would’ve thought that little girl would go on to have such a successful career as an actress in such films as the raunchy Pirates of the Caribbean and oh-so-serious Atonement?

38. Freddie Highmore: When Highmore sprung onto everyone’s radar with his breakout role in the 2005 remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he showed his serious acting chops. Many years later, he proved this even further when he starred as Norman Bates in the TV series Bates Motel.

39. Neil Patrick Harris: Harris might have played a child doctor on the hit television program Doogie Howser, M.D., but it wasn’t until he starred in How I Met Your Mother that people first caught a glance of him as an actual adult. He really grew up to be legen…wait for it…

40. Macaulay Culkin: Culkin won over audiences’s hearts as Kevin McCallister in the ’90s family Christmas movie Home Alone. But when photos of the actor all grown up appeared online, people had a hard time believing it was actually him.
